Evan Bayh for Governor? Not in 2012.

Almost a month ago, there was The Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne talking about the possibility of Evan Bayh, my soon-to-be former U.S. Senator (thank God!), and Congressman Mike Pence facing off in the 2012 race for Governor here in Indiana.  Now, it turns out The Indianapolis Star (courtesy of The Star Press) has reported the former Senator (and former two-term Governor) will not be seeking another term in the Governor's Mansion.

Bye-bye, Clash of the Titans.

With Bayh now out, that doesn't leave much for the rumor mills.  The two remaining possibilities for the gubernatorial race are Lt. Governor Becky Skillman and Congressman Pence (both Republicans).  I personally believe Lt. Gov. Skillman will make a run for the top job in Indiana, but I don't know enough about her to support her candidacy.  As for Mike Pence, whether it's Pence for Governor or Pence for President, there's nothing but speculation on what he'll do in 2012.

As for Evan Bayh, I hope never to hear his name again in politics (wishful thinking, yes, but I can dream, can't I?).  Much like a Democrat candidate for State Representative we had not too long ago, Evan Bayh is a disingenuous Democrat, always presenting himself as a moderate, but voting as a progressive (sprinkled with occasional votes to the contrary in order to keep up his false image).  And, of course, even if he were an actual moderate, that would still be reason enough to never support him.

However, as I noted, we Hoosiers will be hearing about Evan Bayh again in the political arena; people like him don't stay away for long (just ask Jill Long Thompson!)
