Since December 20th, I've been an undecided voter once again. With Tom Tancredo having dropped out of the GOP primary race last week, I began considering a couple of other candidates again. It instantly boiled down to three names: Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter.
I decided against supporting Congressman Hunter because I didn't want to jump into another campaign that I was certain wouldn't succeed. I still was uncertain about Romney and Thompson until late last night. After thinking about the two candidates, where they stood, their pros and cons and everything in between, I ultimately took the decision to become a supporter of Fred Thompson. And so, earlier this afternoon, I became a Friend of Fred Thompson.
I am confident I have taken the right choice. I believe that in Fred Thompson we do have the clear conservative choice, as his campaign has presented him. I just hope I won't end up an undecided voter another two months from now.
Here are some links to Fred Thompson's campaign:

Sounds like a weak compromise of principle for pragmatism to me.
It would be a weak compromise of principle for pragmatism if Fred Thompson were not a conservative or as much of a conservative as Duncan Hunter. However, Fred Thompson is as much a conservative as Duncan Hunter in my opinion. The only thing I was uncertain of concerning Mr. Thompson was how conservative he is. Now I am certain.
Morgan, you are right. Hunter may have a slightly higher ACU rating than Fred, but he had departed from conservative orthodoxy - as has every conservative in one way or another. Hunter's less than conservative moves have been mostly on fiscal matters, an issue area which is at the very core of conservatism.
My point is not to denigrate Duncan Hunter, as fine a man as there is and a great patriot, but simply to show that no one achieves conservative perfection - not even Ronald Reagan.
Welcome on board the good ship Fred Dalton Thompson! Frederalists are more than pleased to have you with us, and we welcome all Tom Tancredo supporters to our cause.
Fred will fight for the issues that were core to Tom Tancredo's campaign, and he will do the same for Duncan Hunter when DH has left the race. Hunter supporters will be just as welcome with us as Tom's crew is.
Conservatives must unite or we will face the prospect of a candidate who is something other than conservative facing the Dems in '08 and probably losing.
Morgan, welcome aboard!
It's going to be a wild ride! Hang on tight!
Thanks, Josh, for welcoming me on board. You are right, no conservative is perfect, as no one person ever is.
I certainly hope all conservatives unite behind Fred Thompson. He is the clear conservative choice.
spacemonkey, thanks also for welcoming me, and I intend to hang on tight. This is one wild ride I look forward to.
